I like potato soup. With leeks. A little salt.
I was thinking exactly the same thing, why pick on potato soup. Surely there are enough problems in the world right now without discriminating against potato soup! I will continue to support potato soup irrespective of this Covid thing.

Russian borscht or shi soup is cracking! We make a lot of borscht and there's no finer hearty soup. I've been to Russia etc many times and never had potato soup

Let’s see what it Is like in Wales in a month from now, that is after a complete lockdown for two weeks. Everything shut down, no home visits by anyone inside or outside, no family interaction, restricted travel, schools are closed for half term, working from home, etc. Basically the most that can be done, in fact exactly the same as It was on day one. If it hasn’t improved things we are all in deep sh1t, if it has improved things even on a temporary level it may be the way forward for the time being. It won’t have helped the economy I agree, depends on your personal priorities. But it will be a test case.
The Welsh circuit breaker isnt the same as day one though. Builders merchants are open, coffee shops with takeaways are trading, pubs are doing takeaway meals. Very different. Our glorious 1st minister even said the effect wouldn’t be immediate and huge, but would hopefully make a impact further down the line. Meanwhile redundancies galore in industry, 2000+ locally at Airbus plus more at affiliated businesses in the supply chain, a Nightingale hospital that hasn’t seen 1 patient, a holiday industry in meltdown, Drs refusing to see patients at the surgery. I really hope for all our sakes this isn’t the model moving forward, we will be in the Stone Age if we have these lockdowns every few months. the scariest thing is there’s no debate , a course of action has been chosen and stuck to no matter what. If you dissent then you‘re ridiculed , banned from social media etc. This is affecting us all immensely so where is the tv debate with both sides laying out the facts as they see them. I’m afraid the longer it goes on the more I agree with Ben.

Maybe next time, I’m sure borscht is fine, but all I was saying is that it was not fair to pick on potato soup. Maybe all the spuds are reserved for brewing in Russia.

Ham hock soup for me.
I do remember living at my girlfriends house, early 80’s. No heating, her mum bought a hock and added water, veggies and Saturday night, in the gas oven , 120 . Sunday morning, the only warm room in the house was the kitchen. Hot warm broth. Does it get better?

Still, let’s see what it’s like in a months time, England are now doing the same thing as you well know. Not doing it for fun.

Yes it does. Much, much better. However, if you prefer the poverty of yesteryear you crack on mate. All you need to do is give all your money away, break all the windows in your house except for the kitchen and eat cheap hot food. Not my bag but if it floats your boat, go for it.

Yes I’m aware that England are about to do the same, I’ve seen the news. My point was it’s different from 1st time around and I don’t expect significant moves as even the policy makers aren’t expecting to shift the dial by any large margin.

It’s supposed to be a reminder about how things were used to be. I never said it was better. And don’t be a ****. I’m on your side.
