maybe this is my 1st 5 but 2 and 3 got replaced quickly

1 - Nissan 140J '80 - so quiet, but didn't last long
2 - Cavalier GLS '77 replaced with Manta GTE '88 (Courtenay water injection) - this was the car us lads cruised in
3 - Cavalier GSi '90 replaced with the Cavalier Courtenay Turbo '95

I used to love them! Lasting memory of them is my older brothers mate who had a red coupe one....seeing him drive it around a park while sat on the roof steering with his feet. No idea how it was dirving, but i was!

Opal Manta, love the look of those.

I did to, a bit different, my mate had a tennis ball green (very bright colour) never lost it in a car park, looked really sickly under sodium street lights but great in the sun
Used to drive around the North Cheam area in the mid eighties

1) Honda Integra Type-R
2) SAAB 900 twin carb
3) TVR Tuscan S

Can you spot where the driving ban kicked in..? Loved that SAAB, have a picture someone of 11 of us standing on the bodywork including bumpers, windscreen and sunroof. Utterly indestructible, it ended it's life as a banger racer after being sold for £50!

1 1977 Ford Escort Van 1300cc - British racing green - cost £30 and £105 to insure
2 1970 Volvo 164 - bench seat, horizontal stripe speedo, full length sunroof and a gearstick that was 3 feet long
3 1977 Ford Capri 3.0 Ghia, auto, donkey engine connected to a slush box, oil pump drive stripped itself on A3 at about 90mph, one end in oil pump, driven off camshaft, other end in distributor, oil pressure dropped like a stone and engine temp went up as quick - con rod went through the crank case with a bang!! even after I had stopped you could see the cloud of white smoke. Must have looked pretty cool with a formula one style engine blow up!

Car History

Wow car history time is it ? Well why not. I always wondered how many cars I have owned over the years. Feels therapeutic to write them down. Here goes from what I can remember.

1st/ For Cortina MK3 GXL ( Twin round lamps ) in yellow. That sloping dashboard. I was a Bodie and Doyle wannabe. Broke down on the way home too :) Painted the faded roof lining with dulux white one day, doh, ( I was 17 ) Looked great but couldn't drive it for 3 days ( fumes )

A few bikes for a while ( TS50 ) Honda CB125T.

2nd/ Rover SD1 in Gold auto V8 - S reg.. Great car but leaky sunroof gave me a good soaking when braking in heavy rain !

3rd/ Ford Capri 2.0S in red ( loved the Tickford but out of my pocket then ) 2.8i was good too.

4th 5th & 6th and probably one or 2 more not worth a mention, and a VW Polo that liked to shed its gear stick in my hand regularly.

7th/ Peugeot 405 diesel ( Amazing chassis )

8th/ Rover 825 SLI manual ( Honda )

9th BMW 320I ( two door E Reg ) Good car

10th/ XR4X4 in Essex White ! ( nice example )

11th/ XR2 ( nice example )

12th/ Peugeot 406 diesel ( great motorway slogger )

13th/ 1998 Subaru Sport in the one and only rally Blue ( still got it, old faithfull always starts first time ) Partner refuses to sell her. UK standard car.

14th Subaru Impreza WRX wagon in British racing green ( still got it and what a car. Three times to Le Mans Classic as support vehicle for Lotus friends. See off an Elise easily. ( L O T U S = Lots of Trouble Usually Serious :)though I love the Esprit Turbo's

15th/ Landrover Discovery SE manual diesel black ( BMW ) Wish I'd gone for the auto

16th/ Subaru Legacy ( still got it. My partners really )

17th 3200 GT

Others on 2 wheels: CBR1000F / GXF600F

Would likes: Esprit Turbo ( late models ) I blame James Bond, or a QP someday now I'm a Maserman, or a 612 Scag but now I'm dreaming. Ahhh that's all folks.

Hi Gran

Yes it is the bug. I don't like the hatch WRX, Looks like a Rover 200. Glad Subaru have gone back to saloons.

Hi Dem

Well my partner always wanted one and then we bought the WRX because we needed two cars. Then the sport was retired for the Legacy which is a more substantial car for motorway use.
The sport is a bit tinny but I'm not allowed to sell it ! I did not want her on the motorway with it, so hence we have 3. However if she has her way the STI is still on the list to complete the fleet. The GT only comes out weekends.
