Both the gearbox/diff oil and the CC system oil are service items. Both should be checked at each mileage service and the CC system oil checked annually if this is sooner. Both should be topped up as needed with the gearbox/diff oil to be replaced bi-annually, however many garages recommend this be done annually.

yep I've now added this to my list for service items

mine was checked and replaced prior to the airfield day (not track day) - very strange

I see a couple more boxes have appeared on the bay.

C

didn't wand to cause more issues in getting teh wrong one so left it up to Marios to get the right box for me - gearbox and clutch replaced, just waiting to arrange collection this week - can't wait to get her back and tucked up in the garage but still very mixed feelings.

thanks all, will provide update once she is back

Enzo,
We feel for you, but these things do happen and it's best to let Marios sort it properly, you can then get back to enjoying your car mate..!!

after some mixed feeling collecting and driving back, she is now home and needs a good clean

outcome - she had a replacement almost new gearbox and new clutch (plus some other bits for the clutch). I noticed a big difference in stop start traffic, very smooth. gear changes also better no longer taking time to change

original clutch condition looked OK to me but informed the springs showed signs of being worn. the original gearbox had only 1L of oil when it was removed, I had a look at the gearbox when I was there and showed no signs of any leaks ?

The gearbox was filled up the week before Bruningthorpe, as its a sealed unit I'm just not sure where else the oil could have gone.

When rotating the axel on the old box, it was clunking a little so need something doing.

my concern is what caused all this ???

Marios did a great job on the invoice, just the taxman and his VAT (if only I could put this down to my business)

looks like next years tours are on again for me :)

If there were no visible leaks, I wonder if the oil was cooking for some reason and evaporated / boiled down, very weird..!!

Well there's visible and there's visible. I remember and Alfa 155 that would lose all its PAS fluid. It wasn't alone in this, but no one could ever work it out. No visible leaks.
Turned out that one of the hoses (metal) became porous over time, and the fluid would seep out at such a rate, and over such an area that it was simply lost on the wind.
I also see to recall some engine that had a similar problem. Turned out the sumps were getting porous. The oil seemed to be vanishing, but in actuality was simply being diffused.

Similarly my GT started losing oil. Took some time to link it to the 'hot' smell. It was, of course, dripping onto the hot exhaust and burning off.

Not suggesting that any of these are happening, but....
