GTS getting closer

Hi all

I've been looking over a few cars for the last couple of weeks and as some of you may recall I have settled on trying to go for a GTS MC Shift. Luckily for me there are a number of cars around at my budget limit of c£70k.

I've focussed in on a couple of cars at Meridien which is conveniently my closest dealer. One thing I would say about GT's though is I'm not all over them like I am with Porsche and I've no idea if there are some do's and dont's in terms of spec and colour etc.

So before I put my size twelves forward does anyone have any comments on either of the two linked cars? I'm all for being enlightened by even the smallest thing when I'm about to spend thick end of £70k!

Also, does anyone have any views on how well a clutch should wear on a GTS - I've had conversations about cars with c5k miles on the clock and almost 40% indicated wear and others at a more reasonable 25% wear at 12k miles - minefield on these cars seems to be brake and clutch wear outside of scheduled maintenance at this age (oh and tyres of course!).

Black on black a bit much for many......2nd one far nicer combo.

£3K to change brakes all round........twice price of OEMs compared GS etc....no alternatives listed up yet.

Don't know about clutches or tyres.

Hasn't the second one got the wrong wheels on it? I thought all GTS came with the wheels shown in the first picture.

They're both gorgeous, get the second one and ask them to take the wheels off the first one?

No you can have Birdcage wheels on a GT S, just not many people do.

That's something I didn't know. I don't dislike them, but far prefer the Trident alloys. To me it kind of makes the second car look like a GT rather than a GTS. While I'm on the subject I also prefer the twin exhaust pipes of the GT over the single pipes of the GTS - what does everyone else think?

Agreed. Young Adam tells me that the twins mean its an auto.

Re the OP, good luck with the search, sounds like a lot of fun!

In respect of the second one there would definitely have to be a deal on the wheels, yes. I can't make my mind up about the alcantara seat centres, plus ideally would prefer a leather rather than alcantara Steering wheel too.

Black on black/dark grey is not necessarily everyone's choice but with one little boy and another litt'ne on the way I had been thinking it may be easier to keep clean.....

All useful comments so far!

You could always get the seat inserts re upholstered, a pro outfit would be able to do it no problem, looking at about £1k, if you call Emblem, they have one opposite who works on all the top end cars, very, very good from all accounts.

My QP has Avorio (Ivory) leather, shows dirt/wear marks very easily.

On both counts thats why I am getting a GTS Auto.

Birdcage indicates 4.2 as you say even though they were not standard, everyone went for them.

Neptune indicates GTS even though you can have them on a GTS Auto.

I'm looking at this on my phone, so not the best resolution, and I'd say car no.1.
The 2nd one doesn't look right with the black alcantara inserts into the cream seats.
My first one had the cream leather and I found it marked and discoloured quite a lot.
I'll post a couple of pics of mine, past and present, when I'm in the office in the morning to give you a couple more ideas.

That would be helpful Dan - thanks.

I'll probably head down to Lyndhurst on Friday and have a good look ST both cars before trying to do a deal.

BTW has anyone got any views on the expected clutch wear (per original post)?

I love the F1 manual box. Suppose it's going to be very similar to the CC in the GS and personally, would not worry about it. Clutches were about £2k when the car first came out and now you can get it done for less than half that. I would expect clutches to last 15-25k miles with the odd story of ones going further. I suspect the wear reading to be as unreliable as the 4200 is.

I think it's main dealer policy to replace clutches on used cars if it exceeds 50%.

Re clutch replacement.....since Loz's was/is 100%...sorta makes a nonsense.......of replacing at maybe 50%.....
