Don't buy a Granturismo - they're all rubbish.....shockingly bad cars.

In particular, avoid the 4.7 MC Shift. It's horrendous and changes gear like theres no oil in the gearbox....rough, jerky and they're incredibly unreliable. Avoid. Oh, it's also very slow....Adam running would be quicker.

And if everyone listens to the above, my car will remain all the more exclusive and rare for longer ;)

Totally disagree with this, sorry. Whilst I appreciate it's a very subjective thing, the MC 'box in auto mode is far from jerky, in fact even in manual mode it's still as smooth as you like. The only time it's "jerky" is in SPORT when your foot is flat to the floor.
As for track work, it won't make any difference which 'box you have. It's a heavy GT car not a 'sports' car (as Maserati told me after some spirited driving).
But, as I said, it's subjective - buy which ever makes you smile the most, for me after the Auto the MC 'box was the only choice.

Right enough , the only time I drove one was at Elvington Test day and its was in sport and was being driven pretty hard !

I too have driven the MC shift and found it a much better box than the 4200 CC. If it was a track car, its been thrashed and the clutch was probably on its last legs.

What's great about this forum is that buyers can collect loads of opinion and it gives them a better chance of getting the car that suits them best. Personally I have ordered a GTS Auto so that explains my preference but I understand why others prefer the MC Shift.

Incidently, if anyone sees a Blu Oceano GranTurismo on a transporter from Italy to Edinburgh next week then it is probably mine so give it a wave and drop me a line. Apparently they come all the way on the same transporter, albeit with another one or two cars. Shows how low volume these cars are - none of that German treatment where your car gets a train to the docks and then gets ragged on and off the ferry before finding itself on a large transporter to a car yard then another transporter round the country for a week dropping cars off.

BB bet you are getting excited if it's on it's way.

Had slightly frustrating afternoon at Meridien. Had a good look around both cars again and on balance the Granito/Avorio car just had the edge. However failed to cut a deal as yet.

On close inspection both cars had their niggles. The Granito/Nero car has some splits in the leather on the centre console, which I'm sure they would fix, there is also a serious bird lime stain on the boot lid + the rear tyres are at 3mm.

The slight favourite, the Granito/Avorio car, inside looks very good, couple of nicks in the leather (again easily fixed), wrong wheels - can be sorted at a price, and there are quite a few scratches/chips which again a good detail & careful touch up would fix. But.....

The front PU of the car has shocking paint, kind of beyond orange peel almost to the point it looks as though it is melting. Now I would have thought they would have sorted that as a matter of course but they want to bring fixing it into the deal. I've suggested that it is a paint fault and should be fixed under warranty - if they agree there be room to do a deal.

It does seem that on the face of it they must have had a good sales month and if I want even a modest discount I may have to look elsewhere.

Something to sleep on.....

Good to see you're doing a very detailed analysis of both.....some bargaining points, you certainly expect nothing but perfection!

Don't drop your standards.....:)

The Granturismo S is the hardcore Granturismo in the same way the Gransport is the hardcore 4200. If you want an auto and don't really like F1 changes then go for the softer 4200 Granturismo which is a great everyday car and still pretty quick . It also has a proper automatic transmission. Personallly, I'd go for the MC Shift jerky or not. Me seems to remember the 4200 being described as jerky but anyone who is used to this kind of transmission will quickly learn the right way of using it with the possible exclusion of Mr Clarkson.

That is a real shame as they present themselves as having top quality prep. That said I bought a car off then a decade ago and tried to buy another off them earlier this year and neither experience was 'easy'.

Thanks BB - I'd certainly expect a £70k car to be A1 prepped. The odd touched up stone chip and light scratch/swirl have to be expected on a two year old +car - but with a front PU repaint as part of the deal I'm not being offered any incentive to deal.

Have to admit I don't expect an easy ride buying a car like this and I'm certainly not an easy buyer!

Will have a chat with them later & if we are both prepared to soften our positions a bit, I'm sure we'll have a deal.

They have a very aggressive sales manner and if you do not buy very quickly they lose interest.

DEAL DONE!

Happy with result nothing like a bit of sales negotiating being played out and I'm sure both myself and Meridien feel happy with where we got to.

I'm getting the Neptune wheels, plus some paint and other bits sorted out, so won't be able to take delivery until second week of July due to the work needed and impending holiday.

GTS here I come - really chuffed!!
