Is it possible for a workhorse & toy to be the same car?

I now wouldn’t want to merge my daily with a toy, but this is the closest I’ve come to a car that combines daily driver and proper toy... a 335i convertible...

Workhorse that can be a toy sounds like uber estate territory... C55 or C63, 550 or possibly for classic status V70R. Fast Audis possibly a choice too.

Harry Metcalfe did a review on the Rapide and reckoned the Granturismo has better back seats.
They look very nice but I think I prefer the maser.
My vote is a C63 - the 4 litre newest one. Coupe, saloon, cab or estate - great noise, quick, an event (not on the Maserati scale though) to drive and reasonably economical.

Really? The limited time I've spent in one, (test drive), I thought was very comfortable.

There are far far worse places to be, this is true. I used to drive to Nottingham from Essex on a regular basis in one. I wasn't in great shape after arrival. But I am old and broken.

I'd be spitting into two cars if it were me. Or maybe 3 or 4

Not sure one will do either job well if it is trying to be both. Depends how much you want to compromise really.

My XJL SS is a great mileage muncher and will tons of miles in perfect comfort. It is pretty quick but no sports car. However it was only £16.5k nearly 3 years ago I think so leaves another few k for a weekend sports car.

Is there a budget?

I would flip it round - can a top be an everyday workhorse?

I had this very dilemma during the lockdown and was looking to swap out my XJ and the mass for an Aston Rapide, in the end I decided that for me, a need a car that I associate with work and at least one that is for play - I was ended up upgrading the XJ which I use for work only.

Capable of doing 400 miles in a day and not leaving you aching like a mo fo, returning decent MPG, but also gets the pulse racing when you want to take it out for a blatt!

Any ideas?

I guess my M140i comes pretty close.
Workhouse can seat 5, hatchback practical.
Mini GT with frameless 3 door bodyshell (5 door available too)
Been doing 300 miles a day frequently during lockdown no problem (try that in a M2/3/4 everyday with hard suspension)
Has averaged 35 mpg over the last 40k miles (real not trip computer)
Blatt capable with 340 BHP, manual and rear wheel drive.
:)

For me an all in one car or car that does both does t work. An M140 or C43 I'm sure are very good cars but most modern stuff is just too big haven't and refined to be raw or special enough to be a weekend sports car. An MX-5 would be a better weekend sports car than most and am very tempted to get one soon.

Yeah. You could put it in the boot of the XJ ;)

LOL...indeed. Would be weird to see the two parked next to each other.

I fancy an XJL, MX-5, Mini Cooper S and Chimaera 4 way photo next year.
