To be fair, when I spoke to him earlier in the week it didn't sound like he'd had as much interest. Who knows. I'll only buy it if the inspection and the price are right. If not, Enzo's gonna give me his GS for £20k, right? ;)

Good luck with the 20k offer! Lol!

I'm still looking, and I've probably seen 8 4200's/GS's.
Some (especially with non Maser dealers) on paper look great, but closer inspection tells a different tale.
I've been told that the right car will come along, (here's hoping!) and I know a number of owners whose search has taken over 12 months!

To be honest, the money is burning a hole in my pocket! But for the first time in my car buying life, I'm holding out for the right one.
It just better come along soon!!!!!!!!

What you really need is a Spyder, feel the wind in your hair.......

Or maybe not (pot calling kettle black) ;)

You selling yours Andy?

Have been considering it and was offered a perfect replacement but due to the work being carried out on our house have had to turn the down. Hopefully I should be able to hold on to it as currently it is the best it has ever been.

Right, got a question for you lot on the 81k/£13k 4200.

It was serviced at dealers and then Autoficcina almost every 12 months but the last service was in 2013. It's been garaged and hasn't really done any miles since. I'm OK with this. BUT in the middle of it's life it had an 18 month period where it appears to have done 30,000 miles between services.

Cars at this price aren't going to be perfect. And at this price it gives me the option of having another similarly priced car, perhaps something for the track. Just wonder what people think about that big interval? Is it really any worse that sitting idle?

It seems like Autoficcina actually had he car up for sale prior to it's recent time off the road (Andy actually posted a link here in 2012). My gut tells me that one blemish on an otherwise decent record isn't the end of the world... and if it's an absolute turd, Autoficcina, who seem to be pretty well-respected, wouldn't have been selling it after maintaining it for a few years, would they? (I'll be giving them a call this morning to see if they remember it.)

The only way to find out how good it is, is to get an independent inspection. Could be the best £300 you spend.

After being nearly burned in the past with a 4200 which had a "dodgy" service history I'd avoid it and the reason is because the 4200 engine is very sensitive to oil types and frequency of oil changes. The car I got had a cold start rattle which got progressively worse and was there the whole time, it was lower miles than the one you refer to. As far as I could tell it had spun a conrod bearing and potentially bent the crank. You can factor 3k minimum to start the rebuild or second hand engine.

Given the length of time since this missed service and the miles it has now I would not be too bothered as long as the inspection reported well.

The same oil is used for the GT and that has a two year 24 month service intervals.

I agree with Phil. It's not cheap enough to take the risk. Unless they reduce the price some way, there will be another one appear before too long. They tend to show up around March as garage doors are opened for the spring.

It could be a good car see how much detail you can get of the history and an inspection done by someone who knows the Marque well.
I have had the pleasure to drive many Maserati models now and one thing is for sure the ones with the higher mileages are definitely quicker cars and my very own project 4200 with 95,000 miles is one of the fastest.
As we are all aware these cars all have their foibles and you need to keep a bit of a war chest to look after them.
Keep us posted as to how you get on.
Phil.

As above given the missing services were some time & mileage back I wouldn't worry too much as long as the inspection is positive. I would however let the inspection company know this information and then they could decide if it is an area they need to investigate further.

I know when Emblem did my inspection they asked for any paperwork that was available so that they could validate any service history to determine if there were additional checks that they would need to do.
