One of the '67 Monte cars in BMC's Piccadilly showroom in February of that year....

The '68 Monte, the year the Porsches began to dominate....

Two of the '67 Monte cars on their way....

Old pals Issigonis and Cooper meet up at Longbridge....

April 1961, the second Cooper prototype at the Goodwood Press launch with Mr&Mrs Cooper in attendance along with Bruce McClaren.... the car itself left Longbridge as a humble Austin Mini 850 (note the standard bonnet badge) and emerged from Cooper's workshop with disc brakes, the new 997cc engine with remote change gearbox and a one off mesh grille....

85503

The same car on the same day with the Austin Mini badge inked out and a fake Austin Cooper badge drawn on the photo, the mesh grille has been replaced by the Austin version of the slatted grille, the Morris version is different with fewer, wider slats....

Dave you really are going to have to write all your memoirs down mate hopefully one day have a proper yarn with you :)
That was the the engine of choice when the rotor tips failed on the Wankel
This little workshop in Coventry did lots of conversions. I used to go and help out at the weekends
The RO80 was basically a nice car except for the engine!

I do tend to agree with what Stelantis are saying. Any major group needs a prestige model and it does not necessarily need to make Stella money.

My main concern is though, putting electric in a Maserati and not having its thumping V8 takes away its USP and therein it will struggle.

The only hope is that the younger generations buying these cars are not basing it on its 1950 sporting legacy.
