Sport mode engaged but no light on...

Same as mine - the switch is lit with lights on, but doesn't change/become brighter when pressed.

The word 'Sport' lights up green with the lights on, so you can see what button it is. Same as all the others should.

The amber indicator lights up when it's active. The word Sport also appears on the dash in amber.

Not on a GranSport! Just the word Sport on the dash, no change in the button.

My button changes colour and the warning symbol comes on the dash, also stays on after stopping the car and re-starting, I thought this would've been the norm as the button is of the push to select push to deselect type, therefore if you don't deselect the function it should remain!
I am not discounting the electrical systems can be quirky on these cars!!!

I have not really tried tackling this but I have decided I am going to have a look behind to button to see if there is a lamp to change, I have found the following guide to remove the buttons

https://stickynomore.com/resources/Center Console Radio and Control Removal.pdf

Towards the end page 24 it shows the accessories panel separated but does not show if the illumination is from a small lamp or a LED. Before I get my clumsy hands to the centre console with a screwdriver could someone who has been behind here confirm what the light source is please? If it is LED it will be highly unlikely to have failed.

Is the light on the dash on? Can you feel the difference?

C

The light on the dash does not come on when I press the button or when the ignition is turned on. The light on the button does not come on.

It is a manual car, I am fairly sure I can feel a difference, steering input feels more direct/responsive and the ride becomes very harsh over rough ground

I'm finding it irritating forgetting what mode it is in while driving... although I could be loosing it and it is a placebo button

It depends on the car. Some stay in sport mode. Others default back to standard when you switch the ignition off thats on the 4200s anyway. I cant comment on the GS.

MY2003 updated 4200, I hope it does default to normal mode after the ignition is switched off.

If its in sport mode then the suspension firms up and the gear changes are sharper if you have the CC gearbox. That i am aware of there is no difference to the steering at all.

If you have a manual gearbox and you dont have the skyhook suspension then in effect the sport mode button will do nothing at all.

If you have a GS and you activate the sport mode then you get the quicker gear changes, stiffer suspension and the exhaust valves are open.

Your cars a 4200 manual so assuming you have skyhook suspension then and that valved rear boxes have not been added then the only difference in sport mode would be the changes in the suspension.

Im wondering if the dashboard sport mode only lights if you have the CC gearbox ?

80% ish of the cars are CC gearboxes so most of us can only comment on what the dash lights do with the CC gearbox.

Anyone else with a manual 4200 and skyhook that can confirm that the lights do come on when you engage sport mode.

Im always in sport mode well 95% of the time but on the few occasions i have been in normal mode but i cant say i have ever noticed a difference in the steering.

If it is just the case of a bulb being out in the dash then the wheeler dealers episode on the 3200 shows you how to get the binnacle out to change the bulb and yes they are just standard glass bulbs not LEDs.

GS stays put once pressed, however my 2004 MY always defaulted to standard on restarting.

I know Vampyrebat has a manual, I sent him a PM asking if he can comment on this. Regarding Skyhook, I am pretty sure that I do is there any way to check for sure? I read somewhere that all UK cars came with Skyhook, heated electric leather seats, Sat Nav, etc. Also I understand that the sports mode sharpens the throttle response. Steering feels more direct as a result of the hardened dampers.

I didn't know Wheeler Dealers did a 3200 episode, I must watch it. At any rate it's not needed there is a good DIY that GP76 linked earlier in the thread: http://www.sportsmaserati.co.uk/showthread.php/397-Dashboard-top-Instruments-removal

What confuses me about this there is no obvious lamp on the back of the unit for the SPORTS light, is it one of the red fixings top centre left/right?

Ditto that the steering doesn't change.

My suspicion is that the switch is broken so it's not going into sport. If the switch isn't broken then there's either a wiring issue, or an ECU problem :(

Steering would feel more direct as a result of the hardened dampers surely?

Hmm I do have that issue which Autofficina reported on the ECU not communicating with their diagnostics machine so I cannot even tell if it does work that way. It does seem to point to an ECU/electrical issue... which is beyond my ability to fix, going to be an expensive major service in January :/

Sorry for asking the obvious but are there any cables going to the top of your dampers?

I agree that there might be that feeling. The actual rate doesn't change though.
