I agree that there might be that feeling. The actual rate doesn't change though.

The steering does not feel heavier like in my F30 3 Series it just feels more direct and harsher over rough ground but again it could just be a placebo, I need an autoelectrician on the case

If its in sport mode then the suspension firms up and the gear changes are sharper if you have the CC gearbox. That i am aware of there is no difference to the steering at all.

If you have a manual gearbox and you dont have the skyhook suspension then in effect the sport mode button will do nothing at all.

If you have a GS and you activate the sport mode then you get the quicker gear changes, stiffer suspension and the exhaust valves are open.

Your cars a 4200 manual so assuming you have skyhook suspension then and that valved rear boxes have not been added then the only difference in sport mode would be the changes in the suspension.

Im wondering if the dashboard sport mode only lights if you have the CC gearbox ?

80% ish of the cars are CC gearboxes so most of us can only comment on what the dash lights do with the CC gearbox.

Anyone else with a manual 4200 and skyhook that can confirm that the lights do come on when you engage sport mode.

Im always in sport mode well 95% of the time but on the few occasions i have been in normal mode but i cant say i have ever noticed a difference in the steering.

If it is just the case of a bulb being out in the dash then the wheeler dealers episode on the 3200 shows you how to get the binnacle out to change the bulb and yes they are just standard glass bulbs not LEDs.

My previous car was a 2004, 4200gt (manual) with skyhook. I know that on my car pressing the Sport button a light illuminated on the button and the word "Sport" came up on the dash. Also when I switched the ignition off, it reverted to non Sport mode. However I can only speak for my vehicle. Hope that helps.

Forgive me if I am repeating myself but it seems that I can't reply with quote today!!
1. To find out if you have skyhook suspension simply turn your ignition key until the dash lights up. There will be a light showing the profile of a car with 1 arrow on top pointing up and 1 arrow below pointing down

2. I have a 42 manual, when I press the sport mode the button lights up and a light on the dash saying sport. It is no faster and the exhausts sounds the same, the only difference I have noticed is the suspension tightens up. The car defaults to normal suspension every time I turn the ignition back on.

Not on my GS - it stays on all the time until I switch it off or disconnect the battery.

On a GS the switch does not illuminate, but there is a warning on the dash.

Should the light come on the dash when the ignition is switched on because it does not one mine. Skyhook, MSP, etc. seems to be working:

I spoke with Autofficina about this who informed me that if there is an ECU issue the car will always default into the hard suspension setting - which it is not so I should have a look at the switch behind the button then.

Little bit of closure on this, Autofficina did a diagnosis to determine that it is the switch panel that is faulty. Annoyingly it is not possible just to replace the individual switch so had to order a new switch panel. As is Maserati the part is a non stocked item and HR Owen had to ask Maserati if they could manufacture one for my car. They inform me that it will be ready in 2-3 weeks.

I bet the switch could be replaced with a little ingenuity. Would you care to send me the old panel and we'll see what can be worked out?

Sure I can send it to you, or pass it on to you at the next ace/auto italia.

It should be here soon, the warranty had me covered on this and a faulty air flow sensor

Maserati don't make switches... they just assemble cars under the FCA banner, very good they are too!

The electrical systems and component's are either Fiat, Siemens, Bosch or Magnetti Marelli.
