Oh Newton: What have you done now?

I'm thinking of changing/upgrading cooling hoses on mine (approx 56k miles).
I always pay close attention to them on my bikes and have the same urge to do likewise with the Maserati.
Often overlooked components but vital they do their job well.

Thanks Catman, I was sure it would be a common part and that price is a lot more attractive than Eurospares.

Hi Ru, yes it is just one of those jobs I've always done on older cars, there is nothing worse than sitting with your bonnet up in a cloud of steam! I believe a silicone set has been created for the 3200 on here already :)

Danny, the belt has been overdue for a year at least and should have been done in the service but now I have a replacement. I doubt it would have lasted much longer in that condition.

When you think about it like, airbags and other systems, hoses should be changed at recommended intervals...makes sense

That's what I'm doing Frank plus the forum should have access to a cheapish kit of silicone hoses :)

I've always changed hoses at 10 years, ditto rubber brake lines, given the prices it is a no brainer really...

I had hoped to get to see them today but I had a crisis to deal with first thing, I probably won't get back before Monday now.

Easy to get to... The header tank yes but the little on under the plenum no, the main ones are not too bad but it is the two clips in the photo above on the back of the blocks that are just pants! ended up filing the single use clips as that was the only way I could get anything to them! One side 1-1 1/2 hours the other over 3 hours... THis updated hose may be easier if Matt has it from the scrapper engine, sorry coffee table!

nice job.

When you dismount all this, why not change POLY-V BELT ( craked on puicture) and timing belt ?

Hi Tom, yes V-belt is done and a much cheaper hi quality one matched has been listed above. It is a 4200 so no timing belts just life lasting chains thankfully.

Newton great work here.

Once we have a set of hoses available, is it worth having a chat with a few Indies (North and South) to see if a deal could be done to replace the hoses. I'm sure that a few of us would be interested.

It was a bit depressing Matt, that was only the first day, lots more removed since then and all still to go back on but she needed some serious TLC and as the bumper and wing need respraying it seems the best way to access everything like the airbox and radiator mounts; It has given me a chance to try and find an alternative airfilter intake but that looks pretty fruitless I'm afraid... Rebuilding is due to start next weekend if I have the parts in time.

It reminds me of those garage models you can buy.......very appealing to the eye....but maybe not in practice

Look what I just won at an auction for £50 very happy indeed!

Should make working underneath any motor a lot more pleasurable an experience. Oil changes are to be a breeze now :)

Yep, chuffed to bits with that, just got to get them picked up, for which I'll need a set of roof bars on the van...

Just got a flurry of other wins mostly stuff I'll use on site but including a pro trolley jack for £15 and a dozen big rolls of blue paper towels for £30 which may not sound great but that is about 15% of RRP

Newton, if you haven't already done it, unscrew the condenser and take it away from the front of the radiator. Behind mine was almost completely blocked from road debris which was slowing/stopping airflow going through both the condensor and the lower half of the main radiator. Well worth a look.

Absolutely Ian, half of Thetford Forest fell out of mine, mostly pine needles and leaf litter but agree, it was totally clogged! I will be wedging the bottom out with a washer when it goes back so the debris can fall out, the issue is however that the plastic radiator cowling does prevent any exit the way it is designed... What to do?

Adding to my earlier auction success I won all but 1 lot I was going for and can include an airline nut gun got for just £10, 6 brand new Firestone tyres for the van for the price of one fitted! and a Samsung colour laser printer (current model) for £4 with a whole box of toners for another £12. All in a result; just got to figure getting it all in the van now...

The lot I didn't win was only a pair of budget winter tyres for the van so really not fussed at that :)
