So it is now close to five years since I got the GS (and 10k miles) and I amd thinking what to do next.

I have had three 4200s/Gs coupes over the last 12 years and enjoyed each one...in fact I would like to own another low miles 42 again... However;

Should I;
Keep the GS and get a early GT or QP
Sell the GS and get a 42 and a early GT or QP
Sell the GS and get a later MC Auto or maybe a Strad.
Keep the GS and get another more usable toy, or;
Go all in and get a Ferrari.

I have been spoilt in the fact the GS has held its money.. I am not likly to get the same result with any other Maser inc the Strad.

Ideas on a post card to...

Postcard from Surrey....

If you’re only doing roughly 2,000 miles a year, and can afford it, I would buy a Ferrari.

At that kind of mileage you could get one with a few miles on it, keep it for between 3-5 years and by the end of your ownership it would be below average mileage.

As Jon says; Fezza makes sense, surely it is on the bucket list to own one, sounds like the right time for it at the moment?

All Fezzas at that price point leave me really uninspired so I’d not go that route. The 360 and 430 are just a little long in the tooth now and running costs can be pretty high. Performance wise they are pretty tame too. I’d go Strad for £50k for sure and use
It as much as you can and don’t buy to worry about losing money but to enjoy the car.

The GranTurismo is quite different from the 4200 but still retains 'the feel' of the Maserati your used too.

They are on the large side.

As Phil says, the Ferraris at your price point are there for a reason.

Personally if you can stretch to a Strad, I would highly recommend it, but if not you could virtually side step straight into a GTS at the moment. The Black one that is for sale on here is a peach.

I won't be buying a car with >30k on the clocks, so most forum cars are out. Why...

Well TBH its the view held by most, inc the forum that they are worth so much less... so I will be going for a lightly used one which will continue to be enjoyed infrequently.

If you want it to hold value over the next few years, I'd look at a low mileage GranCabrio. They hold far better than the coupes and are lovely things. For 2000 miles a year, you can also take advantage of roof down sunny days or maybe a jaunt to Normandy.

Sensible- option 3.
What you know you want to do (switch on Man maths calculator) - option 5.

I think you need to go to the Garage Queens shop for your next motor Peter.

The G'S and GT are really quite different machine.
If you would like to remind yourself as to the feel and presence of a GT, you're welcome to another go in mine, Peter

Depends on how much to spend. Ive been looking with a similar scenario and CaliT is a good option, with wet clutch so should see out a low miles car, carbon brakes so unless high miles will last, older calis apparently have an issue with clutch at 40K miles (according to one dealer) but cant see any back up of this even on forums, apart from lots of cars for sale at 39K miles. Late non turbo cali's are hitting 80-90 and 2012 myr still in 7 year service and warranty with less depreciation .
Non T Calis are now two models behind now the portofino has come out so there is room for negotiation - lots of it as i have found out. Knocked 5K off dealer with out asking! 2012 black with cuorio leather 29k miles at 82K

Just looked at a face lift late 2017 GTS MC with less than 1000 miles - would sell for 74K ish, but it will loose money.
Seen one 2017 GTS for 60K! A few 2013-2014 GTS for 42K-45K at the moment which gobsmacks me after i sold my 2009 for not that much less.

Cant find a decent non Cat D Strad for love nor money at the moment. Think the strads have hit a level now so wont loose anything.

Buy a caliT now in the right colour combo and sell for roughly the same in 12 months if the miles are OK. Not seen any below 115K mind you.

GranCab is where I would be looking, some nice low mileage early models around the £4ok mark but significantly more to get MC Shift

From what others on here have said, you'd want a 4.7 GT otherwise it'll probably feel more lardy than the GS. Obviously it's a different experience, actually, I'd echo others and suggest a Cab.

>>Sell the GS and get a 42 and a early GT or QP
What did you prefer about the 42 over the GS (sorry if this has been covered elsewhere)?

>>Sell the GS and get a later MC Auto or maybe a Strad.
I suspect they may have more depreciation room left.

>>Keep the GS and get another more usable toy, or;
This is perhaps where my money would be going. Are you happy with your usage of the GS? Why don't you feel it's being used?
I appreciate you prefer lower mileage cars, but a higher miles, forum car that you actually use would presumably be more usable, and potentially, something you'd get more enjoyment out of whilst keeping your existing garage queen rather than ending up with a pair of cars you don't use much with fear of adding miles?

>>Go all in and get a Ferrari.
If you feel this box needs ticked, and you don't think you'll do more miles, maybe this is a good plan. The question, as has been put above comes down to budget, age, and how you enjoy your cars (performance, handling, special feeling vs. reality etc)
