Worth pointing out that for insurance reasons I have removed it and am now 100% bog standard. Not a hair out of place, not a single part which is not pure, unadulterated Maserati. Yes siree.

Hi C4S, I think it was me who pointed you here from PH?
Just to let you know,Colchester Maserati are currently having an Ex-Demo sale at ( apparently) cost prices ,and also 50% down 50% in two years on new cars at 0% finance. Ask for Ryan on 01206 848558
Just a thought for your man maths!

Hi sjc! Indeed you did point me here and it's proving to be a great forum so far, so many thanks :)

I'll take a look at Colchester, but probably too early and too new for me.

That sound amazing! Not sure I could bring myself to going back after having that.

I wondered about nearly new when I bought mine but the demo cars were so highly specced and the discounts on new cars were enough to put me in a light spec new car built to my colour preference - important to me - for a good price. Might have changed in the near 3 years since I ordered but worth thinking about.

So gents, one of the things I haven't asked about is Auto versus MC Shift. When I first started planning for buying a car next year I convinced myself that I had to wait until I could afford the new Sport with MC Auto. This was because it had the sound of the MC Shift but without the supposed hassle, complexity and high maintenance cost of the MC Shift. I managed to get a back to back drive of a new auto Sport (admittedly it was a cabrio) against a slightly older S with MC Shift. To my surprise, although the sound of the auto was pretty much the same as the MCShift (providing you had pressed the sport button and selected manual), I really enjoyed driving the older MC Shift more. It seemed much more"sporty", engaging and was more like driving a manual. This was because to drive it smoothly you had to modulate the throttle, think about your changes and really drive it in manual mode to get the best from it. With the Sport auto, it felt a bit too normal and easy, so made it less of an event to drive, (but equally made it very smooth and hassle free). The MC Shift also seemed to have a slight edge on a few more pops from the exhaust, which was also nice. This has led me to being happy to go for the S instead of the Sport which means I can get the car in 2014 vs waiting for the Sport to drop into my budget in 2015/2016. Finally, I kind of prefer the less sporty front end of the S to the more aggressive Sport as I think it is more in keeping with its grand touring role. Interested in thoughts on all of the above from those of you who own (or have owned) the cars in question and what led you to your choices?

Both gearboxes are great so it's up to you. I drive mine in auto ice for normal stuff and sport manual when roads permit.

I agree that the front end of the Sport is a dogs dinner which is a shame but there you go.

C4Sman,your thoughts on the box were the same as mine. I actually prefer the Mc box to the more modern dual clutch one for involvement and mechanical feel, even if it is a bit slower in changes.

Any sort of slippy roads and "Ice" changes up a lot quicker than normal, not allowing full revs and the risk of back end out..!!

I know that, but it sounded like Bob used ice auto for normal driving, rather than icy conditions particularly

Hi, Ice auto on the auto gearbox is great for driving in traffic and in town. It does not use 1st gear and will not go above 3500 revs. Frankly you can still make reasonably fast progress this way given the power of the engine.

If I want to go a bit faster then I use manual auto and if I want this with firmer suspension then I use manual sport. I never drive the car in auto sport - what's the point? - and rarely drive it in normal auto mode. If I had the 4.2 I would probably never drive it in any manual mode but with the autobox in the 4.7 you have full manual control of the gears with the gearlever pushed to the left so it the car makes a reasonable stab of being a manual gearbox vehicle.

Interesting opinion Bob, I have tried everything (as you do), just to see what all the offerings are like..!! In the main I use Manual Sport, but heavy traffic and it goes in to auto usually, it just saves messing about..!!

I have to admit, I never use auto in any shape or form. It's always manual sport for me 'cos I don't mind messing about!

I guess it depends which gearbox you have guys.

My favourite - of the three Masers - is still the manual gearbox in my 4200.

Gents just a quick post from me as a newbie
as SJC knows ( I know him from old when he had another V8) Ive been looking for a while for the right car.
Mainly due to colour and quantity of Carbon
I went from looking for a £55k MC Shift to now having made a decision for something that i never thought I would be able to do.
Im off to see on Saturday and will post up when I get pictures.
But like C4 having driven a newer MC Auto shift this changed what i was after ( as Previously the noise and feel was only on the mc Shift)as for me the newer Sport auto has now gave me everything I want out of the car as it will be used in traffic for a decent amount of its life aswell as blasts to France and italy.
Will update you all at the weekend.
But it does seem alot of people are out there at the moment on the hunt for these cars, Im just lucky my dream spec has landed infront of me this week and Ive grabed it
P.S great forum by the way

Hope you get what you want. The noise is on the earlier 4.7 autos but only above 3000 revs in sport unlike the MC shift where it is always present in sport. Personally I like the set up on my car as the noise is great when the valves close on upshifts and it is useful to be able to cruise/overtake in sport but without the noise which some people may not like. Anyway, it's horses for courses so enjoy what you get.

I've only just noticed your car history. It seems we shared common ground many years before now, before many Porsches I owned a TVR S, a TVR V8S, a TVR Griffith 400 and a TVR Griffith 500. Great minds....

Also think I need to update my signature...

Hi DougieMc, good luck and can't wait to hear the story. Interesting if you could elaborate on how you arrived at something you didn't think possible but the Sport Auto makes 100% sense if you are doing a reasonable amount of twin work.
